The Independent United Order of Mechanics, Friendly Society, Global Incorporated is a direct result of the evolutionary process that continues to pervade Fraternal Organizations. It traces its Genesis to the year 1757, as a result of a schism within the Masonic Order. In that year the Mechanics separated from the Masons into two groups, the INDEPENDENT UNITED ORDER OF MECHANICS AND THE ORDER OF FREEMASONS
The Independent United Order of Mechanics Friendly Society was established in the year 1757 in the County of Lancashire England. and received its authority by Act of the British Parliament.
A governing Council was established and was licensed under the Friendly Societies' Act, with supreme power over all Branches of the Order throughout the world, and with the right of self-perpetuation.
The Order enjoyed great success in England and thus its Global expansion was inevitable. As migration took place, persons took their Fraternal habits with them, so in the year 1877, Branches were opened in South Africa followed by other Branches in in Jamaica, British Guiana, Trinidad, Cuba, Panama, Canada, Barbados, Grenada, Dutch Guiana, Dutch West Indies, Spanish Honduras, British Honduras, and Guatemala.
It was not until the year 1910, that a warrant was granted for the establishment of a Branch in
the united States of America
