The Independent United Order of Mechanics, Friendly Society, Global Incorporated is a direct result of the evolutionary process that continues to pervade Fraternal Organizations. It traces its Genesis to the year 1757, as a result of a schism within the Masonic Order. In that year the  Mechanics separated from the Masons into two groups, the INDEPENDENT UNITED ORDER OF MECHANICS AND THE ORDER OF FREEMASONS

The Independent United Order of Mechanics Friendly Society was established in the year 1757 in the County of Lancashire England. and received its authority by Act of the British Parliament.

A governing Council was established and was licensed under the Friendly Societies' Act, with supreme power over all Branches of the Order throughout  the world, and with the right of self-perpetuation.

The Order enjoyed great success in England and thus its Global expansion was inevitable. As migration took place, persons took their Fraternal habits with them, so in the year 1877, Branches were opened in South Africa followed by other Branches in in Jamaica, British Guiana, Trinidad, Cuba, Panama, Canada, Barbados, Grenada, Dutch Guiana, Dutch West Indies, Spanish Honduras, British Honduras, and Guatemala.

It was not until the year 1910, that a warrant was  granted for the establishment of a Branch in
the united States of  America

At the end of 1940 during the second world war, the English found it difficult to continue to continue the work of the Order, and soon September 1, 1941  transferred all its powers to a Grand Council formed in New York., and in the year 1942, the Grand Council of the Independent United Order of mechanics was incorporated under the laws of the  State of New York

On August 1, 2000, a Historical event occurred in the entire I.U.O.M. F.S. Western Hemisphere Inc., when the Guyana District Grand Lodge No. 1, under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Donald Cruikshank, Rt. Worshipful District Grand Master Seceded and formed  a new Order the independent united Order of Mechanics Southern Hemisphere Inc.

The Keystone District Grand Lodge No. 4, I.U.O.M. F.S. Southern Hemisphere, was established  on Friday April 25,  2003, (St. Mark's Day), under the leadership of Hon. Ian D Sampson  based in Brooklyn New York, but the evolutionary spirit was still at work and that District seceded on  November 11, 2007, creating an avenue for the establishment of the  Independent United Order of Mechanics Friendly Society, Global Incorporated.

This new Order was instituted on March 29, 2008 with The Keystone District Grand Lodge in Brooklyn New York, Araunah District Grand Lodge and Martha's District Grand Chapter in Georgetown Guyana South America.
The Enthronement of the  Rt. Hon. Ian D. Sampson H.P. P.G.M. as the Most Worshipful Grand Master and the Installation of the the other Executive Grand Officers took place on Saturday July 18, 2009. In the year 2010, the Order was expanded with the addition of the Guyana District Grand Lodge No. 3, in the mining town of Linden, Upper Demerara River, Guyana.

The Order was like  an acorn which was planted, nourished and grew into a giant O.A.K. (ONE of A  KIND), but in order to improve the quality of the fruit, we sometime have to prune the tree, and so  in order to have a better quality management team there was some amount of reorganization at both the District and Grand Council levels.

A reorganization of the Executive Grand  Council took place in the month of September 2010, and the following are the Executive Grand Officers:

Rt. Hon. Ian D. Sampson H.P. P.G.M. Most Worshipful Grand Master, Rt. Hon. Allan Bey H.P. P.G.M. Executive Financial Secretary, Rt. Hon. Carlton Hopkinson H.P. P.G.M.
